Hosting an outdoor wedding? Read our Dos and Dont’s to make sure your day is perfect!

Couples can have their dream wedding just about anywhere these days, thanks to the abundance of breathtaking natural settings and unique venues across the country. From wineries to beaches, there are many options for you to tie the knot surrounded by all the beauty mother earth has to offer. However, hosting an outdoor wedding comes with its own unique set of challenges that you’ll want to be sure to consider if you’re taking the plunge.

We’ve prepared a list of dos and don’ts to help ensure your special day goes off without a hitch!

Help Your Guests Stay Cool

If you’re planning an outdoor wedding ceremony during the warmest months of the year, there are a few ways you can help guests stay cool. Set out hand fans and wide-brimmed hats for the ceremony and place umbrellas over tables at the reception. You could also consider renting tents or providing a designated indoor space for guests with children or those who may have difficulty sitting outside during the hottest part of the day.

Have A Plan B

If you’re planning on having a ceremony outside, no matter what season, it’s a good idea to have a plan B in case of bad weather. Even if you have planned every detail of your ceremony, there may be factors outside your control. Do you know where you would hold the ceremony in case of rain? What about if something were to happen to one of your vendors just one hour before you were supposed to walk down that aisle?

Add Accent Lighting

Outdoors weddings, of course, will always look amazing thanks to nature’s magnificence. So why not take advantage of it by using some accent lighting on your big day? Soft string lights or colorful lanterns make great additions in outdoor settings that are sure to set a magical mood.

Bug-Proof Your Venue

This can be a tough one, especially in lush climates. It’s a good idea to find out what kind of bugs your venue is susceptible to so you can take precautions before your big day. To bug-proof your venue, get the owner or manager involved in your planning process as early as possible. Discuss what kind of pests are common in your area (and when they typically pop up) and ask about any pest control measures that have been taken. If treatment is necessary, have it done several days before your wedding, so there’s time for it to take effect.
